SIM for Hope was first introduced in April 2020 as a virtual concert. It evolved into a charity event where the organization donated $5 for every audience member who tuned in. Members of the public could also donate directly to the beneficiary through campaigns on Giving.sg.
Due to the success of the May edition, a more intense social media campaign was launched for the Christmas edition with organic and paid posts on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
Producing SIM for Hope (May edition) was challenging, as Singapore was in the Circuit Breaker phase at the time. Performance pieces were put together from individual clips submitted by students, staff, and alumni who were all studying and working from home. The concert followed the concept of virtual choirs and orchestras, which had become more prominent during the pandemic as people sought entertainment online and via social media channels.
The Christmas edition of SIM for Hope saw a bit of a return to pre-pandemic times as we were allowed to return to campus, albeit under SMM restrictions. We shot the scenes on site, taking the opportunity to showcase our campus while allowing our students and staff to satisfy their yearning to return. This edition was inspired by Singapore's NDP Concert, which was shot at Gardens by the Bay.
To increase engagement during the Christmas edition, we ran campaigns via both organic and paid social media channels, resulting in more donations being raised.
