Glowing in the Dark... 2 Decades On...
A Passion Project
The Story Goes || Glowing in the Dark (GID) was an annual event organised by the NTU Welfare Services Club to showcase the artistic abilities of individuals who are less abled but not disabled. GID XI was the last edition of this production featuring performances by these individuals.
As the Publicity Officer at the time, I was tasked with designing all the collaterals - from banners to tickets to program booklets. Although I was untrained in design, I taught myself Photoshop and created the artwork for the project.
2022, I revisited this project and reimagined what the visuals would look like over two decades later. With 20 years of design experience and proficiency in more than just Photoshop, these are my updated designs.
In today's world of digital platforms and apps, what changes would have occurred if GID was still around? Printed posters would be replaced by digital ones on digital boards.
Promotional materials like bookmarks could be replaced by cost-efficient eDMs, which have a wider reach at a lesser cost.
Printed tickets would be replaced by e-tickets with a unique QR code to scan at the door, eliminating the possibility of losing your ticket.
And instead of program booklets, why not have an event app that contains all the relevant information, your e-ticket, and program highlights or pre-event video teasers sent to you via push notifications?
These are just my thoughts, but they highlight how technology has changed the way we promote events and engage with audiences.
